Why does some software logs look like a doctor’s prescription?

I hate when software update logs are published on the software web pages and don’t include what the software does. Typically you’ll find something like this:

some-software-what-ever version 0.3.54 is now available. This is a bug release to fix some bugs in version 0.3.53-bug-galore. Please patch your broken copy and update to the latest version”

I’ve lost the count on the number of times I’ve found index pages like this.

This doesn’t tell me anything about the what the software does. It would be great that the update messages include a 1 sentence describing it. When you introducing a friend to someone you say “Hey this is John, he is a Computer Scientist that works on So and So”. Why not do the same thing with software?

Now that lazy update log could go online as something more useful for people landing by change on that page.

“some-software-what-ever version 0.3.54 is now available. This is a bug release to fix some bugs in version 0.3.53-bug-galore. Please patch your broken copy and update to the latest version. some-software-what-ever is a money-printing app with accurate color control and police countermeasures“.

Isn’t that MUCH better?
