Meta’s CEO is promoting a future where artificial intelligence is increasingly intertwined with people’s lives
Mark Zuckerberg wants you to have AI friends, an AI therapist and AI business agents. In Zuckerberg’s vision for a new digital future, artificial-intelligence friends outnumber human companions and chatbot experiences supplant therapists, ad agencies and coders. AI will play a central role in the human experience, the Facebook co-founder and CEO of Meta Platforms has said in a series of recent podcasts, interviews and public appearances. “I think people are going to want a system that knows them well and that kind of understands them in the way that their feed algorithms do,” — The Wall Street Journal
This view that we’ll be plugged at birth into an AI system, controlled by some big corporations, and have this system following us for the rest of our lives, at a very deep level, at our intrinsic human valences, this needs to have a strong reaction against.
AI shouldn’t be developed for this bigger-than-1984 vision of the world. This is the Matrix view of humans where we’ll be very dispensable because a machine will know better what is best for these failing humans. All with a monthly subscription plan of just $9.99. No thank you. Unfortunately this is a transversal view common to many CEOs in silicon valley. They sell the idea of humans a hedonistic life based on surrendering to them what makes us human.
